This workbook examines practice-based research methods, practices and methodologies through a series of playful explorations in thinking-making-doing.








Methods in the making of this book include collecting and reviewing course descriptions, cut and paste website creation, non-formal conversations, textual explorations, diverse readings of associated literature and the experimental mapping of emerging concepts and approaches.
For example, by adapting the work of Tom Phillips (2016), the “General Introduction to practice & research seminar trimester one” were redacted to reveal new understandings. These ‘instructions’ or ‘scores’ then provide new directions and interpretations of the intention on the course









How do you DO research?
Documentation is an essential aspect of art education research. It provides a clear record of the process and observations of a research project, enabling others to replicate or build on the study. Documenting the research process also helps researchers to identify their strengths and weaknesses, which helps them to improve their future work. Additionally, documentation is critical in evaluating the quality of the research and assessing the effectiveness of the teaching methods used.

Art education research often involves complex visual and artistic elements that are difficult to describe in words alone. Therefore, detailed documentation, including photographs, video recordings, and sketches, can provide valuable insights into the research project and support the findings.

In summary, documentation plays a crucial role in art education research by providing a comprehensive and accessible record of the research process, practical engagements, observations of people, places and things together with the findings and futures of the research.
